Stories in Our Own Words

Below are some of the stories that we have received from those of you that told us what you and your child and your family went through during your own DCFS child maltreatment allegation investigation, including what transpired during that traumatic time in your lives and how each of you felt during and after their interviews, and while waiting for the results, along with the impact that the investigation had on your family and friends.  This is raw, emotional, stuff, so, be prepared to face the bare-it-all experiences that the families of Arkansas - maybe even your own friends, neighbors, and relatives - have gone through during their encounters with DCFS case workers and while they were caught up in "the system".  Maybe you can see from these stories what needs to be fixed in "the system", and why CAKiD had to be formed to try to make these encounters less traumatic to our children.

• Play Interrupted - One of our founding advocate member's own story told through the eyes of his little friend and why CAKiD was formed.  We hope to be able to tell her some day that she was the reason leading to a kinder, gentler and more compassionate system of child maltreatment investigations across Arkansas and maybe even across the entire country.  We can only hope and pray that something good like that comes out of her ordeal.

If you want to send us your own story to possibly publish here on our web site to help others going through the same experience, please e-mail it to us at stories@KinderDCFS.org.  But, please, do not include any personal information in it that might point back to your particular case.  We would never want to cause any more trauma to your child than she or he has already gone through.  They have probably gone through more than enough as it is.
